| Williston, Vermont Artist's Statement: Painting, for me, is the challenge of recreating color as I see ita sudden burst caused by dramatic lighting, or the subtlety of atmospheric effects. I try to push the painting to the point of having a feeling of life or movementwhether it is a figure, landscape of still lifeit must come alive. Elizabeth Allen received her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design where she spent her last year studying the Italian masters in Rome. She continued her studies at the Art Students League I of New York where she gained a classical foundation in figure and still life. Her move to Vermont inspired her interest in landscape painting and developed a fascination with the use of color and light. Allen is primarily a colorist, using the natural landscape formations and still life to explore her primary interest-color. Her award winning paintings have been published in 2 books and her work can be found in private and corporate collections both nationally and internationally. |
