Anne graduated in 1973 from Middlebury College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In the early 1990s she began painting in oils, and her bold, eye-catching, highly accessible style continues to evolve. Her storybook landscapes contain fields of brilliantly colored patchwork, crisscrossed with inviting roads and trees and bushes with humorous, human qualities. The colors Anne uses are in her mind where she pushes the lights and darks to extremes. Anne is also a firm believer in the importance of art education and has been the catalyst for numerous after school art programs.
Artist's Statement:
"I work in oils on canvas and board. My paintings are a result of combining what I see, what I feel, and what I imagine. The inspiration for my subject matter comes from the land around me. The approach I bring to the landscape is in part a result of working with children and learning from the simple, playful way they see the world. I use bold color to move the viewer through the painting and to define the shapes, rhythms, patterns, and light found in nature." |
