Castine, Maine

Artist Statement:

I seek out subjects that allow me to share my love of place with the viewer. What I try to express in my work is the feeling of serenity, contemplation, joy and wonder I experience as I explore back roads of New England.

I am excited by the mystery under a dark pier or behind an old barn – the jungle of angles and patterns of color created by the changing skies. I wonder about the strength and quiet beauty of the artifacts and people who inhabit these magical places.

Dunham has been a Maine resident for over twenty years. As an avid organic gardener, he’s drawn to rural farm scenes, found throughout New England. “I’m especially drawn to the farms in winter, when the bare branches allow me to see more of what I call the bones of rural existence. Not only does it expose more details of the farm, but also suggest a story about the people that inhabit these spaces and the forces of nature that they have to make peace with.”

His work is in public and private collections around the world.
