Margaret Lampe Kannenstine was born in St. Louis, Missouri. she studied art at the Art Institute in Chicago, received a BFA (1959) from Washington University School of Fine Arts, St. Louis, and studied at the Art Students League, New York, 1959-1961.

She has had numerous solo and group shows from 1973-2002. She recently received Citation of Merit for excellence in the arts, which was awarded by the Vermont Arts Council.

She lives with her husband, Louis, in Woodstock, Vermont where she creates her lyrical and colorful monoprints.
