| Quechee, Vermont Artist Statement: As a watercolorist, I always felt that the world of printmaking was a mysterious world beyond my reach. My curiosity challenged me to take my first printmaking class and I fell deeply in love with printmaking after pulling my first print. The honeymoon is far from over! I am now working with solarplate etching technology. This printing method is a less toxic and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional etching. An image on a transparency is exposed to a plate covered in a photosensitive emulsion, transferred to the plate by light, and developed with water. A variety of inking techniques can be employed, so one plate can yield multiple editions of a single image or multiple unique prints using the plate as a jumping-off point. No matter where you land, the journey is never dull! Sheryl studied painting at Massachusetts College of Art and renewed her interest in printmaking after moving to Vermont in the nineties. She an accomplished watercolorist and is a signature member of the Vermont Watercolor Society and a board member of AVA Gallery and Art Center in Lebanon, NH. Her work is in public and private collections throughout New England. |
